Lately, I’ve been reflecting on how much habits shape my life. When I let mine slip, chaos quietly crept back in. My energy scattered, my spirit dimmed, and depression came knocking. I couldn’t continue like that any longer, living a life disconnected from God and from my inner self. So, I stopped everything, I resigned, I left.
But as I began rebuilding my routines, little by little, I felt peace returning. These five habits work together, gently holding me in balance—body, mind, and soul.
1. Rising early with the Word of God
Whether at dawn or later, sitting quietly with Scripture grounds me. I love the early hours, I can just sit down, and listen to the Lord.
2. Gentle movement
After years of inactivity, I finally returned to the gym. For me, it’s not about pushing hard but moving softly—walking, light weights, breathing deeply. Walking in nature is my favorite prayer in motion.
3. Restful sleep
Since moving back to Saint Petersburg, I’ve rediscovered real rest. Sleep seems so simple, yet it transforms everything—mood, focus, even faith.
4. Journaling
Writing down my prayers, thoughts, and little daily blessings helps me see how God is moving in my life. Some mornings it’s just a few lines; other times, pages flow out. Journaling helps me refocus, it clears my mind, it helps me think and brainstorm. I also have a dream journal… I might talk about that in another article.
5. Planning with grace
I’ve learned that planning doesn’t mean control. It means moving calmly, step by step, while staying open to God’s guidance. Without it, I drift too easily.
None of these habits are always easy for me. But when I keep showing up, even imperfectly, they begin to carry me. Maybe this week, you too can choose just one habit to nurture. Which one calls to you?
Have a beautiful day,
Mari
